What SafariDex is
SafariDex is a data project that answers one question: where and when are your chances of seeing specific wildlife actually highest? We compile published ecology research, official park reports and multi-year trip records into the Wildlife Experience Index (WEI) — a 0–100 score per species, per park, per month.
How we work
Every destination goes through the same documented quality pipeline — research dossier, structured scoring, and independent audit gates — before publication. We publish our scoring factors openly and link our sources. What we don't do: accept payment for rankings, copy other guides, or publish pages our quality gates reject.
Who we are
SafariDex is built by a small Netherlands-based research team. We aim to make key claims traceable to published sources — see our methodology page for how scores are built.
Built on verifiable data
We are transparent about how SafariDex is made: this is a data project, not a travel diary. Every destination goes through the same pipeline — a research dossier built from documented sources, structured scoring, and an independent audit pass with hard quality gates before anything is published. High scores and prominent claims must be traceable to a source, or they don't go live.
Every score uses the same formula across destinations, and our scoring approach and key inputs are publicly documented on the methodology page. Found something that doesn't match your experience in the field? We check every report against our sources and correct what doesn't hold.
